Dental Implants

Permanent single-tooth replacement using Straumann titanium implants. One specialist handles the surgery and the crown — no handoffs, no referrals.

About

What are dental implants?

How dental implants work

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Placed into the jawbone, it bonds permanently with the bone over 3–6 months — a process called osseointegration — and a custom-made crown is fitted on top. Because the implant continues to stimulate the jawbone the way a natural root does, it is the only tooth replacement option that prevents the bone loss that follows a missing tooth.

Why patients choose dental implants

Patients choose implants over bridges or dentures when they want a permanent, fixed result. No neighbouring teeth are ground down. Nothing is removable, nothing moves when eating or speaking, and there is no plate against the palate. With a 95%+ success rate across 40+ years of clinical use, they are the long-term clinical standard for most patients with reasonably healthy jawbone — and where bone volume is insufficient, grafting can usually build it back up first.

Options

Types of dental implants

Single tooth implant

One titanium implant placed into the jawbone, topped with a single crown. The neighbouring teeth are not touched. This is the most common implant treatment and the standard of care for replacing a single missing tooth.

Implant-supported bridge

Two implants anchor a bridge across multiple missing teeth — without grinding healthy neighbours. The right answer when several teeth are missing in a row but a full arch isn't needed.

All-on-4 / full-arch restoration

Four implants per arch support a fixed prosthesis that restores a complete row of teeth. Indicated when most or all teeth on an arch are missing or compromised. Surgery and a fixed temporary in a single session.

Process

What the process looks like, from first appointment to finished tooth

01

Step 1

Consultation and 3D scan (~45–60 minutes)

You sit down with Dr. Alberts directly — not a coordinator, not a nurse — and he assesses your situation. This includes a 3D CT scan that maps your jawbone in detail: its density, its volume, and exactly where an implant can be placed safely and accurately. You leave knowing whether implants are right for you, and any complicating factors (such as bone loss) are identified at this stage rather than discovered later.

02

Step 2

Written treatment plan

Within a few days you receive a written plan with the exact total cost, the timeline, the materials, and any preparatory work needed. Not a range, not an estimate. If anything changes during treatment — which is rare — it is agreed in writing first.

03

Step 3

Implant placement (45–90 min per implant)

The Straumann SLActive titanium implant is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. Most patients describe it as similar to a routine extraction. A temporary tooth is fitted the same day where aesthetics matter (front teeth); back teeth heal under a healing cap.

04

Step 4

Healing and osseointegration (3–6 months)

The implant bonds with the surrounding bone over the next 3–6 months. You go about your normal life. We see you at 1 and 3 months for short check-ups to confirm everything is healing as expected.

05

Step 5

Final crown

Once the implant is fully integrated, the final crown is fitted. Bite, fit, shade and contour are checked in the chair. The whole appointment is typically 60 minutes.

06

Step 6

Aftercare

An aftercare schedule is agreed before you leave — usually annual hygiene plus a clinical check. Implants don't decay, but the surrounding gum and bone need the same care as natural teeth to stay healthy long-term.

Our Approach

One specialist, one system

Most implant patients see two specialists: one places the implant, another makes the crown. Dr. Alberts is both. He places the implant with the final crown already planned — its angulation, depth, and emergence profile from the gum line. One person makes both decisions, in one head, instead of two specialists working in sequence. The implant itself is Straumann — the most clinically studied system in the world, with over 40 years of published evidence and a lifetime warranty on the screw. Crowns and prostheses are made in vetted European laboratories from materials chosen for the case (zirconia, lithium disilicate, or PMMA). Every patient receives a written treatment plan with the exact total cost before any procedure begins. Dr. Alberts holds ITI Fellowship — the implantology field's primary research organisation.
